Why this Blackjack
The only Original where your clicks move the edge
Every other Original fixes EV at bet time. Blackjack gives you decisions that matter. Hit, stand, double, split, surrender: each spot has one correct answer on the basic strategy chart. Follow it and the published 0.5% edge is real. Ignore it and you are donating edge back to the house. The payout table and hard-totals chart on this page are the full reference.
Live blackjack often pays 6:5 on naturals at low limits and uses shoes you cannot audit. This table is single deck, 3:2, reshuffled every hand, with a seed you can check.
Insurance pays 2:1 but basic strategy always says no. Roughly -7% EV every time you click yes. The button exists because rules require offering it, not because it helps you.
How to play
How Blackjack works
Get dealt two cards. Dealer gets one face-up. Aim higher than dealer without busting (over 21). Hit (take a card), Stand (stop), Double (one card, double bet), Split (pairs), Surrender (give up half-bet, end hand). Dealer reveals second card, draws to 17 (stands on all 17, including soft). Higher hand wins; tie pushes; blackjack (A + 10-value on first two) pays 3:2 unless dealer also has blackjack.
Surrender returns half the bet and ends the hand. Split aces and eights, never split tens. Double 11 against dealer 2-10. These are not tips. They are the chart.

Sessions
How to run a Blackjack session
Flat betting keeps variance readable. The chart below is not optional if you care about the 0.5% line.
- Keep the basic strategy table visible. Phone, second monitor, or printed card all work.
- Use the same bet size for every hand unless your bankroll plan says otherwise.
- Bring at least 100 minimum bets if you want the session to survive normal swings.
- Skip side bets and insurance. Both carry negative EV versus the core hand.

Strategy
Basic strategy is not optional
Blackjack is the only original where your decisions change EV. Optimal basic strategy is a 17-cell decision matrix (player total × dealer up-card) that drops the edge from ~5% (random play) to 0.5% (perfect play). Memorise it, or open a chart on a second screen, the casino does not police it. The house margin lives entirely in the gap between your decisions and the chart.
Use the basic strategy table on this page or keep a printed card. Duel does not ban strategy aids. The 0.5% edge assumes you use them.

Provably fair
How to verify a Blackjack hand
The shuffled deck order is derived from HMAC-SHA-256 of the seed pair + nonce, mapped to a Fisher-Yates shuffle of 52 positions. Verify by reproducing the shuffle locally and confirming the dealing order matches what the casino played.
- Before the round, copy the server seed hash from the provably fair panel. That hash is the commitment. The raw seed is hidden until the round ends.
- Set or accept a client seed. The nonce increments on every bet. Together they feed the HMAC-SHA256 function Duel publishes in the rules.
- Play the round. When it settles, reveal the server seed and recompute the digest with your client seed and nonce.
- Map the digest to the game outcome using the rules for that title. If your result does not match what Duel paid, open a ticket with the round ID.
